Probate / Inherited property

Call us on 01484 536799 or  request a Jowett probate valuation.

Jowett Chartered Surveyors & Estate Agents can help you make arrangements for the property part of a deceased estate. We understand this can be a difficult time and will do what we can to make the process as simple as possible, whilst ensuring you get the maximum return from a sale or letting.

As probably one of the biggest assets, a deceased’s property needs accurately valuing for inheritance tax purposes.

  • A Chartered Surveyor must estimate what the house would reasonably fetch in the open market.
  • It is necessary to submit a current valuation to the Inland Revenue, as at the date of death, in order to obtain Grant of Probate – the first step in the legal process of administering the estate. This can be a confusing process that we can help you through.
  • There is a fee payable to Jowett for probate valuations – but you can reclaim this from Jowett (see below).

We can also provide valuations and marketing advice that comply with the requirements of the Court of Protection if the deceased was a former vulnerable patient who was unable to make decisions regarding their property.

I have carried out professional valuations in Calderdale and Kirklees since 1978 for banks and building societies, tax, probate and matrimonial clients and for the courts as an expert witness.
