Jowett Chartered Surveyors & Estate Agents can help you make arrangements for the property part of a deceased estate. We understand this can be a difficult time and will do what we can to make the process as simple as possible, whilst ensuring you get the maximum return from a sale or letting.

As probably one of the biggest assets, a deceased’s property needs accurately valuing for inheritance tax purposes.

  • A Chartered Surveyor must estimate what the house would reasonably fetch in the open market.
  • It is necessary to submit a current valuation to the Inland Revenue, as at the date of death, in order to obtain Grant of Probate – the first step in the legal process of administering the estate. This can be a confusing process that we can help you through.
  • There is a fee payable to Jowett for probate valuations – but you can reclaim this from Jowett (see below).

Jowett’s can assist with the probate valuation following a bereavement. This is a difficult time and the last thing on anyone’s mind would be the valuation of the estate. However, the system has its rules and as part of handling an estate, the probate valuation has to submitted to the Inland Revenue in order to obtain Grant of Probate.

When you are ready to sell the estate we would happily assist with this. The price of the probate valuation can then be reclaimed upon completion of the sale.
