Huddersfield is a large market town in Kirklees, West Yorkshire lying between Leeds and Manchester along the M62. The 11th largest town in the UK (according to the most recent census) Huddersfield has a total population of approximately 146,000. ARCHITECTURE & PLACES OF INTEREST

Huddersfield is a town primarily showcasing Victorian Architecture. Huddersfield train station was described by the late Sir John Benjamin as the ‘most splendid station façade in England, second only to St Pancras in London'. Key landmarks in Huddersfield include:

  • Castle Hill - overlooking Huddersfield on which lies Victoria Tower, constructed to mark Queen Victoria’s 60 year Jubilee.
  • Emley Moor mast, which at over 330 feet tall is the single tallest freestanding structure in the United Kingdom.
  • Greenhead Park, Huddersfield’s largest park within walking distance of the town centre, which attracts some 250,000 visitors each year.

EDUCATION

There is a good supply of reputable private & public primary and secondary schools. Huddersfield New College (Salendine Nook) and Greenhead College, close to the town centre are the two main 6th form colleges and the town has a further education college and the 2013 Times Best University Winner - Huddersfield University.

TRANSPORT LINKS

Huddersfield is connected to the motorway network via the M1 and M62. The M62 passes about 2.5 miles to the north of the town centre connecting cities including Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.
